About piq

piq is a pixel art community. It offers a pixel art app to draw and publish images to the galery.

A little History

In 2010 Alex, Daniel and Tom founded Codeus – an Edinburgh-based AI-consultancy. In our time between projects we played around with some ideas and Tom came up with a basic flash-based pixel art drawing app. To allow anyone to try it out, we've set up a basic website allowing people to upload their images.

People seemed to like it and the amount of features grew steadily ranging from contests to forums. By the end of 2011 however, Codeus got dissolved and we parted ways. Alex to work at an established company in Norway, Daniel went to a start up in Berlin and Tom continued his PhD.

Piq stayed surpisingly popular in the upcoming years and Daniel started several attempts to rebuild the underlying engine to keep development of the page alive. (piq was the first big web site he built, so it wasn't too maintainable).

After three failed attempts, Daniel eventually succeeded in 2018 and created an all-new version. He's now working on Codecks to create the best project management tool for game developers.
