by Neon32, 22 April 2015 18:05
Furry, what kind of comment is that?
by reebow, 22 April 2015 18:06
a spartan would be a warrior right or no?
by toasted-waffles , 22 April 2015 18:59
Yeah, but this is KNIGHTS not WARRIORS
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:00
almost the same thing
by toasted-waffles , 22 April 2015 19:01
The Scottish, Celtic, Angles and Saxons are warriors, Britons are Knights
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:03
they are NOT the same!
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:03
(Yes I am British)
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:04
ok whatever
by toasted-waffles , 22 April 2015 19:05
a knight is a warrior with a knight-like status.

Could be a regular european knight. but you could be inventive and have a samurai, or a greek warrior or even a arabic knight.
by Grogramn, 22 April 2015 19:08
Spartans aren't Knights...
by Sanic, 22 April 2015 19:12
Oh my god
by Lumpkins, 22 April 2015 19:12
I'm
Salivating over this contest
by Lumpkins, 22 April 2015 19:12
Hence... "a man who served his sovereign or lord as a mounted soldier in armor."
by Sanic, 22 April 2015 19:13
Also to clarify, at least by European standards, a knight was a chivalric, somewhat honor bound warrior who normally went into battle upon horseback, but not exclusively so, with what would have been very desirable armour depending on the period of knight, IE norman Knights of 900-1100 would have worn primarily mail but as Knights became a pridinunant military unit as plate technology was developed, the idea of the knight in armour came frim and started developing around 1400.
by Lumpkins, 22 April 2015 19:21
Lumpkins that seems a bit right... But the ones that are saying "guis sprtans r knights!" haha no.
by Sanic, 22 April 2015 19:22
Nerd
by Lieutenant Disaster, 22 April 2015 19:23
knights were just people who were knighted, what they wore and what they did had nothing to do with it.

i mean, people are still being knighted. one of the guys from monty python was knighted i believe, and they never wore armor and rode into battle (unless in a sketch at best).
by Grogramn, 22 April 2015 19:25
Nerd(2)
by Neon32, 22 April 2015 19:28
holy shit, a nerd on the internet?! you jest.
by Grogramn, 22 April 2015 19:30
I'm just talking about the general interpretation of middle century Knights which is, as as I said, when knighthood had it's most prodominent and iconic period
by Lumpkins, 22 April 2015 19:30
your description of a knight is too vague.
by your standards, any Polish hussar is a knight.

i outnerded you this day.
by Grogramn, 22 April 2015 19:31
I think I did okay. Just couldn't draw the helmet.

Meh.
by SupernaturalSam, 22 April 2015 19:32
actually, (british person coming through) a knighthood or to be knighted in england means to have the title of "Sir"not to be the warrior form. Tom Jones is a "Sir" because he was knighted, not because he fought in battles. Done.
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:35
I'm not saying that a knight has to be something as ridgedly redefined as the parameters I set, I'm acknowledging that in the prime of medieval knighthood as a military and chivalric concept, the peramiters that I set do sum up Knights as well as they can be summed.
The era of knighthoods influence ending in Europe was at the advent of gunpowder weapons but the iconography and romanticism of the medieval knight will always be what most associate with
by Lumpkins, 22 April 2015 19:36
BTW if you are a woman then you become a "Dame"
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:37
I think daniel meant a knight as in one that fights, not someone that has received a knighthood like Tom Jones.
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:38
NERD FIGHT
by Neon32, 22 April 2015 19:39
yeah, but your description of knights STILL was very un-inclusive.
samurais, arabian knights, centurions etc etc, they are knights if we count within the context of "knighting".
by Grogramn, 22 April 2015 19:40
I'm not a nerd, I am a geek and just happen to know about the country I am currently living in, and I am actually agreeing with Lumpkin, just letting you know that it has two meanings
by reebow, 22 April 2015 19:41
Centurions are a Roman position in the Roman Legion... Centurions are so forth called "Century Leaders"... Senior Centurions commanded Cohorts, and those appointed commanded sections of the Praetorian Guard. So Centurions are not Knights in any way, they're basically field officers if we're acting like modern day... As for the Samurai, also known as "bushi" in Japanese, they have similarities to the Knight with honor wise. But they're not Knights in really any aspect.
by Sanic, 22 April 2015 19:45
The idea of knighting is extremely broad in itself, but the difference between a knight and say a samurai is largely cultural, knighthoods were given out traditionally to squires and pages who trained for years specifically oriented toward that goal of becoming a knight (agains just in typical European context) whereas samurai were traditionally selected from noble houses, which, whill was mostly the case in Europe aswell, was far less of a class based system. Both were feudal but both had very different ways of running everything, the parallels between Knights, samurai, mamlook, centurions, ect might be close but there is a reason they arnt called "Japanese Knights" it was small cultural divides.
by Lumpkins, 22 April 2015 19:46
A noble chivlarious warrior that could either come from a noble house or from peasant background (works both ways).

Knighted by a noble or a royal of superior status (works both ways).

given the same oaths, which they rarely followed (works both ways).

i guess if we are going to say "knight means SPECIFICLY european knights (as long as we dont talk about europeans lands who were controlled by islamic leaders AKA turkey and spain), SPECIFICLY french, german and british" then i understand.

my point was that knight is a very broad and vague term, as knights from different european countries werent the same, and then saying "the differences between an english knight and a swedish knight dont matter, only those between a mamluk and a european one".

meh, i dont work with dictionaries, so perhaps we should just say "fuck it".
by Grogramn, 22 April 2015 19:58
Well my phones dying so yeah, I'll settle for "fuck it"
by Lumpkins, 22 April 2015 20:05
ohh I got an idea .3.

by Sanic, 23 April 2015 15:12

by ahayden, 23 April 2015 15:45

by reebow, 23 April 2015 15:47
And Btw, I am a geek, I play video games and read manga, I am just also intelligent, i am more a geek than a nerd, I have said this many times and was just frustrated, not bratty. Read the comments and you'll see.
